I was born and raised in a small town in the Free State, and came to the Western Cape to study medicine, graduating from Stellenbosch in 2004. I began my career in the public health sector before moving into private practice, and I have owned my practice since 2009. Along the way I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine and a Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes with Distinction, and developed Primary Eye Care courses for nurses.
I have spent more than seventeen years as a General Practitioner. I built and ran a family practice, sat across the desk from thousands of patients, and thought I understood what it meant to walk alongside someone through illness.
In 2024, that understanding changed. I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
I went through surgery, treatment and recovery. As I moved through each stage, I became increasingly aware of a gap that many patients experience. My clinical care was excellent, and I remain deeply grateful to my oncology team. Yet beyond the treatment itself, I found myself searching for practical, integrated guidance on how to eat, move, sleep, think and cope, and how to rebuild my health and wellbeing during and after cancer. How do I live the 'new me'?
I am fortunate, I am a medical doctor. I have colleagues to ask. Most people do not.
Elah Health grew out of that gap. It is a whole-person practice covering nutrition, movement, mental wellbeing, supplement guidance and DNA-informed care, offered by in-person consultations and coaching sessions as well as secure video (telemedicine).
This is for people living with a diagnosis and for people who want to age well on their own terms.
I am living this health journey too. I understand the uncertainty of scans and the emotional work that healing and recovery can bring. This lived experience, together with my medical knowledge, shapes the compassionate, practical and deeply personal care I offer at Elah Health.
